Billon Group and IEEE Poland Chapter to secure achievements of young engineers on distributed ledger technology
(Warsaw/London, September 28, 2020) A mobile 3D mapping robot, a cooking recipe generator, an IoT weather system and other winning ideas will be immortalized on blockchain as Billon and the Polish section of IEEE engineering association recognize winners of a national competition for young engineers from Polish technical universities. Winners will receive their special diplomas at the IEEE Day online award ceremony September 29, 2020.
Billon sponsored the third edition of the IEEE Diploma competition, organized at thirteen technical universities across Poland. The competition awards diploma theses with the most innovative and ready-to-use ideas in fields including computer science, bioinformatics, automation and robotics, telecommunications, electronics, and electrical engineering.
“The IEEE Polish Section Diploma Competition is an excellent example of supporting technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. The IEEE Diploma competition fosters cooperation between scientific institutions and companies, which has been one of the main development goals for the European Union for several years,” says Dr. Marcin Ziółek, industry relations officer in the Polish section of IEEE.
“The competition evaluates the possible implementation of the presented idea, its topicality and quality. The IEEE diploma is an expression of the highest recognition and a symbol of cooperation between academia, business and the Polish Section of IEEE,” adds Dr. Katarzyna Wasielewska, competition coordinator.
As a competition partner, Billon will immutably store digital versions of winners’ diplomas on its blockchain, providing an immutable record of the recipient's success that will be accessible for years to come. This is the first practical and real-life implementation of Billon's solution for publishing high-value documents and credentials on distributed ledger. Saving entire documents on blockchain prevents forgery and falsification, so their holders can easily prove their credentials to interested parties like future employers.
Billon also gives winners an opportunity for a paid internship in the company. “We invite young IT specialists and engineers to kickstart their career at Billon and work on the breakthrough distributed ledger technology secured by state-of-the-art cryptography. We hope they will stay with us for even longer and leave their marks on developing this technology that can change the whole world of payments and data exchange,” says Wojtek Kostrzewa, CEO of Billon Group.
Billon’s capabilities for trusted document management are already used by BIK, the largest credit bureau in the CEE, in a blockchain solution for banks which enables them to store and send client-facing documents while meeting regulatory requirements of a durable medium of information. A few months ago, the British-Polish fintech began tests of storing client contracts on blockchain for the energy company Tauron. In those projects Billon cooperates with the Polish branch of Microsoft which offers Azure cloud infrastructure for hosting blockchain nodes.
